The closest airport is Kisumu International Airport. After landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NAIROBI), our visitors/volunteers/travelers can use recommended transport or any of these options:
Take another plane to Kisumu International Airport (book prior). Then either take a bus, Nissan, or Probox from Kisumu bus stop to Mbita town:
You can then take the Mfangano Water Bus, Mfangano Ferry, or Mfangano Engine boats. All these first land at Sena Centre on Mfangano Island.
For those interested, we organize private cars through a transportation company in Kisumu known as Amnitours to bring you directly from Kisumu Airport to Mbita point - easy, faster, and direct. You can then take the Mfangano Water Bus, Mfangano Ferry, or Mfangano Engine boats to Sena Centre on Mfangano Island.
Book any of these buses direct from Nairobi to Mbita, then to Mfangano through Water Bus or Ferry. Choose either night or day travel depending on your arrival time in Kenya.
